The marks of false ‘christian’ teaching and teachers Part 2 - Scripture Twisting

Scripture twisting
This is one of the oldest tricks in the book and the devil first used it when he was tempting Jesus. Satan wrongly divided the word of God, twisted it and said
If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written (here comes the twist):
‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone’. (Matthew 4:6)
If Jesus did not know the word, he could well have said “well he is quoting scripture so it must be correct” but the problem was that the devil was quoting it out of context. This is what many false teachers do and because christians are too lazy to study for themself, they swallow any spiritual junk food that is fed to them. False teachers count on the fact that you will not follow how they jump through the Scriptures, matching words out of context at a fast pace. They are not aware of some basic rules of bible interpretation. It is so important to look at the context of a verse or verses. Greg Koukl gives some good advice to never read a bible verse. Instead, read at least a paragraph before and a paragraph afterwards.
But Jesus rightly divided the word of truth and said in verse
It is also written: Do not put the Lord your God to the test. (Matthew 4:7)
Now before you watch the video below and in light of what I have said above, please read 2 Kings 6:1-7 because that is where the clip is taken from. Even better, read the paragraphs before and after. Now watch this:
This is a classic example of twisting scripture in order to get money from those who do not know any better, those who are desperate for a miracle, or those who simply cannot be bothered to study the bible for themselves. The scripture is simply about one of the sons of the prophets who was cutting down trees and in the process, the axe head fell in the water and sank. Elisha threw down a stick where it fell and the axe head floated showing God’s miraculous power. It has nothing to do with all the gumph that was talked about in this video. False Teachers can make the bible say anything they want it to say but the crucial question is , is it true?
Bezel333 has made an interesting video which shows another example of scripture twisting
Why are fire engines red?
Because they’ve got 8 wheels and 4 people on them
8 + 4 = 12
There are 12 inches in a foot
One foot is a ruler
There was a ruler named Queen Elizabeth
A ship named Queen Elizabeth sails the seas
In the seas are fish
On the fish are fins
The Fins fought the Russians
And Russians are red.
And that’s why fire engines are red. Because they’re always rushin’
Sounds silly doesn’t it? But this is exactly what scripture twisters do.
I will leave you with this warning from Peter
14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.
17 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. (2 Peter 3:14-1![]()

great post! false teachers always take scripture out of context.
Its great- your posts are really encouraging me to investigate. After listening to a post on You Tube of T.D Jakes praying about the world, it is centred mainly on peace in the world. But Jesus said that he hasn’t come to bring peace but division. If I have got this correct the peace that is spoken of in the Gospels is about the peace that you receive when we have Jesus, which mean than when we go through trials, persecution and attacks from the devil – fear not, worry not for God is with you.
TD Jakes said that he wants his son to grow up in a world full of peace, away from danger. That is not going to happen unless every single person gives their life to Christ around the time that he is alive.
This type of teaching sets up people for a fall. The reason why this is is because this is not the promise that God gave us (peace on earth). Plus if we were to have peace on earth, why would we want to die and be in heaven with God. It is sad because as soon as these people stop receiving they are going to see their emptiness- lets just hope that they will repent and not turn away forever.
Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. (John 15:20)
Where is the persecution? I would love these ministers to meet a christian in a muslim country being beaten for believing in Christ.
Wow Alan this is good stuff!!!
