Praying For Laborers

In Luke 10:2 Jesus said, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest.” It has been 2000 years since Jesus told His disciples to seek God in prayer for laborers, and it seems that we still have the same dilemma. Bill Bright said, “Only two percent of believers in America regularly share their faith in Christ with others.” One would therefore suspect that Luke 10:2 is probably the most neglected exhortation to prayer in the Bible. Who is going to feel comfortable praying for laborers if he is not laboring in the harvest fields himself? Change that today. Pray for laborers and then say, “Here I am Lord; send me,” and then obey The Great Commission to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature. There goes another minute. Gone forever. Go share your faith while you still have time.

In the last year or two I’ve increasingly shied away from participating in online discussions. But I’m finding something really inspiring when I allow myself to get involved and speak up on sites like yours. About your Way of the Master post, I was in awe. Just yesterday my eyes fell on Mathew 9:35-38, but especially verse 36. I read it many times, and each time it became more and more real to me, more special and … just something. It’s just such a simple thing, to look at a crowd of people, a sea of humanity, and to acknowledge their sin and how lost they are without Jesus. Then the next verse about the harvest being plentiful … I’m always thinking of myself. When people hear that I live in Japan, they often ask if I’m here as a missionary, and my answer is always, No, I’m the one in need of witnessing. I wouldn’t know what to do to help someone in the Word. But maybe just pray this prayer and don’t worry about what we feel we’re capable of. This morning I underlined that passage. And then I found your post. :o)
Carla, like yourself, I have also decreased my participation on some online discussions as they sometimes can end up unfruitful but I have found doing this site very satisfying in that I can speak my heart and I also see it as a ‘mini ministry’ in that I feel encouraged when I get comments from people such as yourself and I too get encouraged when I read other peoples thoughts on their blogs. From all of your comments on my blog, I can see that you have a desire to please God, so just remain in his word and remain in obedience. Also remember that we all fall sometimes but the thing is to not remain down but in Christ, get up (dont know why I said that)
“Get up” summarizes my entire life … in two words. If I can get the courage together and get my site back up, I’ll elaborate there and maybe provide you with a link. Strange that you would tack those words on to the end of your response. The two most important words that shed clarity on my struggles. Thank you.
