Before I say anything, let me make this clear that this post is not to belittle or minimize domestic abuse or the sufferers of it. Those who do this despicable thing should have the full weight of the law brought on them. This post is solely a look at Juanita Bynum actions from a biblical standpoint

Not content to play out her whole domestic abuse and divorce out in front of the whole world, Juanita Bynum is making the most of her publicity (and dragging it out) and now appears in Divorce Court. That’s right, the self proclaimed ‘face of domestic violence’ ‘christian’ ‘pastor’ is guest appearing on a TV show about an event that God hates. To say she is milking her situation is an understatement. Watch the following videos

So what does the bible say

1 But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: 2 that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; 3 the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— 4 that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. (Titus 2 1:1-5)

First and foremost, Juanita’s is in no position to teach anybody about living a biblical family life. I know many women will flock to her because they can ‘relate’ but just relating does not make the advice good especially when it comes to godly matters. I have heard Bishop Weeks (her soon to be ex-husband) say many times that he has seeked reconciliation but Juanita is having none of it and has not even hinted that she requires the same. Surely if there was ever a chance to show the love of God, it is then. Look how many times we have offended God and if we come with a repentant heart, he is willing to forgive us.

A marriage is supposed to be a representation of Christ and the church. When the world looks at Juanita and her attitude about her marriage, what does the world see? Here is an example of what they see

She is supposedly the spokesperson for God yet blasphemes his name by her conduct. What she is doing does NOT bring glory to God, she does NOT preach sound doctrine and you can see from past videos that she operates on greed (If only that threshing floor video was still available)

I think her words “I love him, but I love me more” sums her up. Ching Ching!!!

I will readily admit that I have always been a pre-tribulationist but then I saw the video below on the Independent Conservative and it gave me food for thought. It is 24 mins in length but you NEED to watch all of it

Vodpod videos no longer available.

The thing is they have used the scripture to put across their view and on first glance it looks like they have rightly divided the word. Admittedly I have to study this a bit further for myself but could it be that a lot of us could be wrong to think that the rapture will come before the tribulation?

Following my post on The Five Solas – Solas Christus (In Christ Alone), I think this poem is very fitting by Blair Wingo of The Passion For Christ Movement.

You may know from some of my previous posts, that I am a fan of Blairs poems because they are straight to the point and theologically correct so I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

The Five Solas – Solas Christus (In Christ Alone)

Taken from The Way of the Master Minute

Birds of a Feather

Most people keep to themselves. They are birds of a feather and they prefer to keep it that way. But not the Christian. We know that we must speak to strangers. Fortunately, we have the example of the way of the Master. If you study John chapter four, you will see that Jesus took the initiative by speaking first to the woman at the well. He didn’t wait for her to ask why He had peace in His eyes, or to mention the things of God. He had an agenda to share the Gospel with her, so He initiated the conversation. We have a clear agenda. We want the world to hear the Gospel and to be saved. They are not going to come to us, so we have to go to them. So, break free from the flock of shy birds and fly with the message of everlasting life. There goes another minute. Gone forever. Go share your faith while you still have time.

The Five Solas – Sola Scriptura (By Scripture Alone)

Is the New Testament Text Reliable?

Sola Fide teaches that believers are justified or declared righteous by faith alone. I will use the same scripture that I used with Sola Gratia (By Grace Alone)

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

You can see above again that we are saved though faith, and that not of ourselves. It is through our belief in Christ that justification comes. If we believe that we have any part in it, then we are saying that we had to help the atoning work of Christ and that his death was not sufficient.

The CARM website puts it like this:

Roman Catholics often mention that the Bible never says we are saved by faith alone and that the phrase “faith alone” occurs only once in James where it says that we are not saved by faith alone. If this is so, then why do the Protestants say we are justified by faith alone and not by works? Because the Bible teaches that we are justified by faith alone, and not by works.

The following is a list of verses about being saved by faith. Please take note that faith and works are contrasted. In other words, we are saved by faith “not by works” and “apart from works,” etc. The point is that there are only two options. We are saved by faith alone or we are not. Since we have faith and works (both conceptually and in practice), then we are either saved by faith alone or by faith and works. There is no other option.

If we see that the Scriptures exclude works in any form as a means of our salvation, then logically we are saved by faith alone. Let’s take a look at what the Bible says about faith and works. Then, afterwards, we will tackle James’ statement about “faith alone.”

  1. Rom. 3:28-30, “For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. 29Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, 30since indeed God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith is one.”
  2. Rom. 4:5, “But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness.”
  3. Rom. 5:1, “therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
  4. Rom. 9:30, “What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, attained righteousness, even the righteousness which is by faith.”
  5. Rom. 10:4, “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.”
  6. Rom. 11:6, “But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.”
  7. Gal. 2:16, nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified.”
  8. Gal. 2:21, I do not nullify the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.
  9. Gal.3:5-6, “Does He then, who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? 6Even so Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.”
  10. Gal. 3:24, “Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, that we may be justified by faith.”
  11. Eph. 2:8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Not by works, lest any man should boast.”
  12. Phil. 3:9, “and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith.”

Again, works/Law is contrasted with faith repeatedly and we are told that we are not justified by works in any way. Therefore, we are made right with God by faith, not by faith and our works; hence, faith alone.
