Well it was only going to be a matter of time before Todd Bentley got exposed for what he truly is. As you may or may not know, Todd Bentley filed for a legal separation from his wife.

According to Fresh Fire Ministries on 12 Aug their statement read as follows

Todd and Shonnah Bentley are presently experiencing significant friction in their relationship and are currently separated. We want to affirm that there has been no sexual immorality on the part of either Todd or Shonnah, nor has there ever been.

and according to Patricia King, it was our fault because of our ‘negative words’.

For if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God? (1 Tim 3:5)

Then Fresh Fire Ministries released this statement a few days later regarding Todd’s adulterous affair with another woman

We wish to acknowledge, however, that since our last statement from the Fresh Fire Board of Directors, we have discovered new information revealing that Todd Bentley has entered into an unhealthy relationship on an emotional level with a female member of his staff. In light of this new information and in consultation with his leaders and advisors, Todd Bentley has agreed to step down from his position on the Board of Directors and to refrain from all public ministry for a season to receive counsel in his personal life.

Someone obviously lied along the way.

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord (through rightly dividing God’s word) . 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them (what many of us blogging have been doing over the past few months) . 12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light (as we now see) , for whatever makes manifest is light. 14 Therefore He says:

Awake, you who sleep (who don’t read the bible for themselves),
Arise from the dead,
And Christ will give you light.” (Ephesians 5:9-13)

Now I pray that through godly counsel, his marriage is restored but I also pray that he will repent for his deceitful lies and for leading many christians astray. If any good can come out of this, hopefully it will encourage Christians to read the bible for themselves (Acts 17:11) and not just follow anyone who names the name of Christ

  1. naturalsystah says:

Patricia King is a trip! What on is she talking about, curses from the body of Christ?! For questioning Todd Bentley’s doctrines and justly criticising him? For crying out loud!

Just a minute ago I was reading another blog talking about Tonex’s comeback and there people were disparaging “pharasaical” church folk for daring to critique his doctrines and practices.

What on earth will it take for some professing Christians to say “that’s not on”/”that’s not of God”?

  2. Douglas K. Adu-Boahen says:

My dad said a similar thing regarding the whole Bentley situation and quite frankly, Pat King should sit down and be quiet. No one’s words – mines, yours, the hundreds of bloggers – ruined the ministry of Bentley and caused him to leave his wife.

His depraved, sinful self made his do that and quite frankly trying to hot-potato blame is both moronic and hurtful to the true Body of Christ.

  3. We will never now the pressure that was placed on Minister Todd Bentley. God is plain in His word when he spoke about Kind David, that was a man after God’s own heart.

Christians are not invincible, nor are we above sin. Enough judging has taken place about this matter. Just because, he has fallen does not mean, the revival or healings was not of God.

Maybe we need to stop looking up so much to man and run more after God Himself. I pray blessings upon Todd and his family and restoration.

The latter will be greater than the former

  4. windy says:

yeah we do, we all know that pressure. it’s called lust, and it don’t make you King David.

  5. Laura says:

At the end of the day King David was a totally different person, he’d spent a long time in God’s presence, and yes – the fact that he of all people gave into temptation shows us that we all can. No man is perfect.

But on the other hand, compiling this latest development with all the other evidence against Bentley I think we have an open and shut case. If you are truely in a close relationship with God no man’s words can ‘curse you’!! Todd had his choice, and he made it. And for him, it was the worst possible time for him to have an affair – when people were testing his integrity. If he can fall so quickly and obviously when in the centre of the spotlight, what will he be doing when no man is watching?

I’m not sure that if God was working so powerfully through him these past few months He’d let him fall into such sin. Lust should’ve been the last thing on his mind.

  6. Baba says:

The heading of this page is shocking in its tone about another Christian, furthermore is slanderous

  7. Alan Higgins says:

Baba, it may be shocking but the question is, is it true?

  8. Ken says:

Todd Bentley is responsible for his own actions and sins. A person’s words will not do that, it’s always a blame-game among these false teachers. They are never the problem, but others are. Well that isn’t the bible, each man is accountable for their own actions good or evil. Our only hope is Christ perfect sacrifice and his satisfaction of God’s judgement that should be ours, but by God’s grace and by faith alone we do receive forgiveness from our sins and Christ perfect law keeping..righteousness is imputed(given) to us…you see? King can only blame Todd, not others for Todd’s sin, because Todd is the one responsible.

Side note on blaming……remember Adam’s fall in the garden…who did he blame? His wife….the woman God gave him…..but God didn’t buy that…and Adam’s sin and falleness was imputed to the rest of humanity!

The bible uses harsh words and negative words all the time against sin and God’s own people when they don’t repent. King should take note of that and read her own bible if she has one! She calls herself an PROPHET and doesn’t take time to read the prophets in the bible…..what’s up with that?!

It’s because she is a false one…and displays it in her own doctrine(teachings).

  9. Lorikate says:

I find it funny that there were no “woah”s and “manifestations” of the Spirit. Does that mean this message was NOT Holy Spirit inspired? Could she have been speaking in the flesh? (as usual in my opinion)

I agree with Ken (above), people are responsible for their OWN sin. And if I choose not to speak out about lies and deceptions like this – I would be responsible for my own sin of complacency and fear.

  10. Isnt it pathetic, that even now, they are still trying to make us afraid to say anything critical of Bentley?Like God is gonna strike us dead for speaking the truth.

  11. heisfirelight says:

This is what I say about everything, “Those without sin cast the first stone” I think you all are acting WAY out of line for the humans you are, and nothing like Jesus……think long and hard about how you are puting yourselves above Todd. He is a man. And still so much in need of Jesus’ grace just like the rest of us.

  12. Brad says:

    Robert Ricciardelli on 28/08/08 stated:

We are praying for Todd, but those who were touched had nothing to do with Todd. We have been journalists on this from the beginning and have interviewed dozens, including staff members and former Fresh Fire staff members. Todd has been an alcoholic for several years, he has had two affairs and wants to marry the current one. He came into Lakeland already in his affair and had been living in a sinful situation for several years. God will not tolerate this, and shame on those who covered this up. This will all be coming out and I hope Todd finally gets people around him that will help him rather than use his platform. If Todd humbles himself and repents, God will use him… That is our prayer….

Imagine that Todd has been an alcoholic and adulterer for years and John Arnott who is a divorcee has been his friend and mentor for years as well as Bill Johnson.

So what does this tell us about John Arnott or Bill Johnson? He is a hypocrite, liar, and a deceiver!

Naming Names So You Know What You’re Looking For!
While Peter Wagner[1] himself is not indicted in immoral practices he is the leader and chief spokesman[2] in the false teaching that has preceded and produced this scenario. In addition, by his endorsing[3] of Todd Bentley[4] in the farcical commissioning or credentialing in which he and his associates, including Wesley Campbell[5], Bill Johnson[6], Che Ahn[7], Rick Joyner and John Arnott engaged, he may be perceived to have endorsed immorality, from which he is now desperately trying to distance himself. At the very least he and his associates lacked “discernment”. Some who endorsed and commissioned Todd Bentley on separate occasions are known to be immoral men e.g. Bob Jones[8] and Paul Cain[9] and others are notorious false teachers e.g. Rick Joyner[10] and John Arnott.[11] All of the above named are indicted. The judgment is set; some of the books have already been opened.

  13. adele mandagie says:

So confusing. Let’s start praying that Todd Bently repents and his family restored. We have to look at the fruits ; having an affair with another woman and getting divorce is an evil fruit. Maleachi 2: God hates divorce especially spiritual leaders. Nowadays I have gone back to the basics: the Bible and Jesus as lord and Saviour and that He himself came to teach the “WORD” and that He is light, giving us also the light.. the Light of Jesus Chistt conquers all darkness. The devil hates the light of Jesus; he wants us to live in darkness. The lord bless this team that is searching for righteousness. amen…adele

  14. Hey, it’s not as if he’s molested a 7 year old is it? Opps, that’s right Todd’s done that as well.

  15. Todd was teaching bizarre, heretical things.Warning otheres about apostasy is not “casting stones. If it was, then we would be required to keep our mouths shut and just accept every form of false teaching and embrace every false prophet that comes along. The most shocking thing that I heard a Christian say,was that it was all the fault of whoever exposed the “affair. Not the fault of Todd or the woman who he is involved with.To be honest with you,the shockingly heretical teachings, and absurd claims were much more disturbing than his “emotional affair” to me.

  16. As for “cursing” Christians who “dare” say anything critical of Todd, that sounds like the old Benny Hinn trick”Dont touch this ministry,or God will curse you and your children. What a bunch of crock! There is NO CONDEMNATION TO THOSE WHO ARE IN CHRIST JESUS!!!Hinn cannot curse you,or Bentley,or some woman “prophet”,it’s all a fear tactic,a smokescreen thrown up to keep you from seeing the truth.I am blessed, not cursed,my children are blessed, not cursed.Dont let some false prophet put you into the bondage of fear.Their words could come back on them.

  17. Katherine George says:

Regarding Todd Bentley – I would like to say that let he who is without sin cast the first stone and that as it is written “if we say we are without sin, we lie and do not the truth”. I think anyone who stands in judgement or criticism of Todd or whoever, needs to take a good look at themselves. I’d like to know how you would feel about coming clean about a sin that you got tripped up by in front of the world. I think I’d be a little shy about coming forward with that and don’t you think the Lord took all this into account when he prophesied through Stacy Campbell, do you think it’s impossible for Him to restore Todd Bentley? “The Lord uphold’s all those who fall”. Why do people tear into fallen ministers? Because they are jealous, the same reason they crucified Jesus”. I pray that God would restore Todd and bless him and heal him and fulfill all his purposes. At the end of the day God loves Todd Bentley and Shonah and isn’t impressed with hypocrits.

  18. Yvonne says:

You wrote…… ‘Don’t you think the Lord took ‘all this’ into account when he prophesied through Stacy Cambell’.
The Lord didn’t say anything through Stacy Cambell. God has spoken through His Word, the Bible and we are not to add or subtract in any way. Believe me I know what I am saying. I have been there. I thought I was some great chosen person who God spoke through but all I was doing was being led by demon spirits……We live in a time of counterfeit wonders and signs and so many people are being deceived into believing it is from God. He has already given us the greatest ‘sign’ …..Jesus.
Why don’t people just call this whole Todd Bentley thing what it really is. SIN and DECEPTION.
I cannot believe there are so many naive ‘christians’ out there who would believe such weird deceptions.
But then the Bible says the gate is narrow and few will go through it.
We are called to be ‘fruit inspectors’…….remember ‘By their fruits you shall know them’. This is not being critical, this is being obedient to the Word of God. We are supposed to discern and be careful about what we accept as being from God and the only way we can do that is by being like the Bereans and search the Word daily.

  19. Katherine George says:

Of course it is good to meditate on the bible and God speaks through the bible, but God is not limited to the bible. Jesus spoke using creation to explain the kingdom of god and to give metaphors. Does it mean that God has ceased to speak through creation. The bible clearly says that God does speak through creation. If God doesn’t do anything that is apart from the bible we shouldn’t bother praying about anything because he isn’t going to do anything that isn’t written in the bible. If Jesus said preach saying the Kingdom of Heaven is upon you, heal the sick, cast out demons, raise the dead etc. How do we do that? By hitting everyone over the head with the bible? Jesus said I send you the Holy Spirit who will lead you into all truth. Is that the same Holy Spirit who inspired the bible and the same Holy Spirit who did creative miracles and raised the dead. Why do you limit the Holy Spirit. I think the fruit that has come out of Todd Bentley’s ministy is awesome. I think you need to take the plank out of your eye. The way you discern what is from God as Paul said is test the spirits whether they be of God “Does this spirit recognise Jesus Christ as come in the flesh”? IN THE FLESH. GOD WITH US. EMMANUEL. GOD WAS WITH THEM TO CONFIRM HIS WORD WITH SIGNS AND WONDERS FOLLOWING. SO FAR I HAVE NEVER SEE THE DEVIL GIVE GLORY TO JESUS FOR ANYTHING!

  20. Alan Higgins says:

Katherine, God does not do anything outside of his word. You are right, the Holy Spirit who will lead us into all truth but again, that truth will line up to scripture and not be contrary to it. A good Berean checks out a persons doctrine and lines it up to scripture and if it does not line up to it, it must be rejected as false. Just because we all sin does not mean that we cannot use righteous judgment

  21. liza says:

God wants us all to get along.
Pray for mr bentley and his family.
    trust the Lord.
    pray for one another-
be wise as serpents and gentle as doves.
critising is not for christians, yet alot of christians appear to love to excersise this ungodly activity. maybe they are no better than todd bentley?
THE Lord knows. trust in HIM.

  22. Alan Higgins says:

    Liza is discernment ungodly?

  23. Katherine George says:

Look, once I was given a pink jacket and I said to the Lord, “I always wanted to be a pink lady”, I said jokingly that it must mean I’ve made it. Anyway, I didn’t have very high self esteem and was just trying to converse with the Lord. On Sunday I went to my church and sat in a seat and on the back of the seat in front was a pink lady apple sticker. Now to me that said that God was saying that “You’ve made it, you are a pink lady”. Does the bible confirm that? Yes, the bible says that God loves me and the fruit of that was that I felt God’s love. Does the bible say anything about pink ladies? No. Is God limited to speaking through the bible or can he speak to us in whatever means He chooses. Who is anyone else to say how God can speak. Also, where in the bible does it say that God ceases to speak to us in anyway other than through the scriptures? All things were made by Him and without Him nothing was made that was made. Even Apple Stickers were made by Him.

Another time I was being afflicted around my head and I felt really frustrated with it and I said “Lord, I’m fed up with these things, I feel like quasei modo”, a few hours later I was visiting a friend and in the background there was a horse race on and I caught the name of the horse “Quasei Modo”, I listened more intently and Quasei Modo came first and the runner up was called “Fear Not”. Now did that increase my faith in an all knowing, omipotent, all loving, caring Heavely Daddy, yes it did. Does the bible say anything about quasei modo or horse racing? Probably not. Does it say that God is omipotent and the creator of the world and all things in it? Yes it does.

    I rest my case.

  24. Alan Higgins says:

You have misunderstood me so let me rephrase what I am saying? God will never tell you anything that is contrary to his word. For example, does scripture explicitly forbid me to pick up a Playboy magazine. No. But there is enough guidelines and principles telling me that I shouldn’t so scripture should ALWAYS be the baseline for every decision even if what you do is not specifically told in scripture.I hope that makes more sense

  25. Graham Lucas says:

Read ‘Why Some Christians Commit Adultery’ by John L Sandford. The roots of the problem go back to unhealed hurts in childhood. I should know. Both myself and my wife have committed adultery. Only God can heal the hurts.

  26. Laura says:

I think we all understand that everyone here is human, we all make mistakes etc etc. But I’m afraid too many people lean back on ‘unhealed hurts in childhood’, they may be a reason but they are no excuse! Infact to make a point – my husband (who is infact not saved.. yet) had one of the most horrific childhoods of anyone I know. He endured physical, sexual and emotional abuse, willful neglect, was passed around family members like a possesion and was in and out of care frequently. He has not commited adultery.

Obviously it all comes down to abstaining from temptation and we can all fail at times – but if we blame it on our childhood we could all say ‘we’re victims’ of something or other. I don’t believe there’s any such thing as a perfect childhood. We all have our ‘hurts’ and our ‘nightmares’ of one thing or another but using them as our ‘get out of jail free card’ is doing nobody any favours.

We should have compassion on each other but self pity is dangerous.

  27. charity says:

Apart from the adultery question, what about this business with the visitations he had from an angel named emma – this is apparently a hindu god. I find it all very baffling….what about the strange tattoos all over his body. Aren’t our bodies to be temples for God to dwell in? Look, I am not criticising, I am just questioning if the guy is being used by God or the devil. The Bible does tell us that there will be deceivers in the last days, is this it?? I dunno

  28. Yvonne says:

    Hey Graham,
It would be much wiser to advise people to read the Bible to see why Christians committ adultery rather than some man made excuses in a book about how events their childhood ’caused’ them to do it.
No where in the Word does God call it anything else but plain old SIN………

  29. Glenn says:

This is the second large public scandel in the North American Church bringing shame upon Father’s name in less than four years.

Common Sequence: Lack of intimacy with God, eventually replaced by intimacy with another person, object, or activity.

Theoretical Cause: Early childhood woundedness resulting in misplaced attachment in the soul and eventually, spirit, mixed with the Church’s lack of wisdom in failing to address that problem at the correct time.

Lesson(s) to be Learned: Church leaders should address attachment problems early on. If one displays difficulty attaching to God/being intimate with God she must learn to develop a high level of intimacy with Him and be able to teach others to do the same prior to accepting any position of leadership. Motive for intimacy should be pure, not to become ‘qualified’ for any position.

Enemy’s Device(s): Destroy intimacy with earthly father early on and attempt to maintain lack of intimacy within godly, proper relationships.

Steps to Develop Intimacy: Seek healing of relationship with Father in all circumstances contributing to present lack of intimacy with Him. Each circumstance lacking intimacy may require differing responses such as confession (sin), healing (woundedness), deliverance (demonic interference), in others discipline (character).

  30. Man From Africa says:

Charity, thank you for your comment. You have made me so excited that people like you still exist in the Body of Christ.I have watched Todd Bentley minister with bated breath,my heart pounding as I graciously tried to look past the tattoos and the body piercing…the ‘Bams’ and the mysterious head jerks…the angel Emma and a host of other things. The truth be told, all the while I have had an uneasiness in my spirit about it all.

We in Africa know a lot about people using demonic powers to minister to Gods people and pretending they are using the power of God,and all the while they are using strange spirits, spirits of divination, demonic incantation and spells. In these last days we have to be extremely sensitive and watchful. We can’t swallow everything anyone does, and label it as ‘God in manifestation’.If we are not careful the hunger for the spectacular will have us open to any kind of deception.I can’t be so hungry to see God move that I am ready to take any wind that blows upon my thirsty soul for the wind of God.

In Africa, the making of tattoos on the body is accompanied by the unavoidable shedding of blood. When this is done by practitioners of the occult a demonic covenant is made.In Africa and the Western world their is a fine line between tattoos done for the fun of it and those etched by secret practioners of dark arts.We must be careful.

We have a particular man in my country Nigeria who many in the western world think is a great man of God but is really a servant of the devil, the Pentecostal Fellowshgip of Nigeria refused to be associated with him because we know the source of his powers. However, many in America and Canada have accepted this man as the great power of God,while we in Nigeria sit back in dismay as we watch the world embrace this diabolical Anti-Christ ministry. The Churches in the Western world really need to be a lot more discerning.

  31. Elo says:

Wow.. whoever wrote this article has some issues to fix with God. The person writes ” it was only going to be a matter of time before Todd Bentley got exposed for what he truly is.”
As a son of God you must know that acusing a brother or sinning against your marriage doesn’t make you “who you really are” but it only shows that you have something to repent. Sinning doesn’t keep you from being a son of God.
“My people are destroyed for the lack of knowledge”

And then the writer continues to say “I pray for the restoration of their marriage” after accusing this man of showing “who he really is”…. Wao, that’s sad.

    • Alan Higgins says:

What he really was was a false teacher. This was not guess work but his doctrine exposed him. The Bible makes it clear that we shall be known by our fruits and we are allowed to make a righteous judgement on someone using God’s word as the standard
