Ouch!! John MacArthur doesnt pull any punches on this one at the Ligonier Ministries’ Christless Christianity 2010 conference. THIS IS A MUST WATCH/LISTEN.

Some of the most popular preaching in America presents a message of positive thinking. The alternative Gospel of Joel Osteen and the prosperity preachers forgoes the cross and advises us to merely “do our best.” At its heart, this is pure legalism of the worst variety. In this message, Dr. John MacArthur examines the alternative gospel of the prosperity preachers and explains why legalism-lite is still legalism.

  1. That was an absolutely powerful message given by John MacArthur and I sat riveted to the screen as I listened to every word. He was so right on the mark with his teaching. It is sad that so many are looking for their best life now! Unfortunately, that is the reason that true Gospel holds little or no interest for most. No one wants to hear about suffering or picking up our cross for Christ. People want favor and wealth right here and now. Every time there is a crisis or a disaster in the world, people demand to know where was God and why didn’t he stop it from happening! They want to have the life of heaven on earth while ignoring the fact that we are all clothed in corrupt flesh.

It is only in crucifying our flesh and surrendering our wills to Christ that we will see heaven. True joy on this earth is understanding that Christ has a plan for those who believe despite what we have to endure. It is knowing that all of our troubles are working out something so far greater than our minds can conceive. And it is trusting that God can finish the work that he started in us.

This breath of time here on earth is fading and all that matters is eternity with our Lord and Savior, Jesus. I pray that MacArthur’s message will be heard and understood by all. It is that important!

  2. Denise Smith says:

Searched high & low; but couldn’t find John Macarthur video—seems to be missing from links provided…is there another source??? thank you…

  3. Alan Higgins says:

Denise, I cant seem to find it but please check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hZDt96Sw7Q

  4. Josh Kittinger says:

I am so thankful to God that he uses John Macarthur in a such a powerful and effective way. Michael Horton is also very gifted–as John mentioned in his introduction. I do find it encouraging to listen to sermons of this nature. As we live in a fallen world, and more and more in an evangelical culture of false christianity, I am strengthened to know that there are more than a few people out there who are legitimate sons and daughters of our Lord and do know the truth. This encouragement isnt always locally and immediately available due to the sad shape of so many churches. Yes I am an alien, but there are others out there as well!

  5. Francois du Plessis says:

Listening to John Macarther for over 21 years it has been a great privilege,to hear the truth of the gospel. God has used him in a special way to spread the gospel around the world because of his availability.i can honestly say thousands upon thousands of people has been saved by him teaching the Word Of God from Scripture,John is bold enough to stand up and proclaim the truth even though he gets criticised by so many people who call themselves Christians, especially in his own country. The critics have nothing else to do but to discreded him, they are either ignorant not knowing the Scriptures, or they on the broad road to distruction. We thank God for the wisdom he has given John, and pray for all who is against him, to come to the Truth,The Truth will set them free.

  6. Sam Nads says:

There’s enough suffering and negativity already, nobody wants to hear some douch bag talk about how we need more.suffering in this life.

  7. Jo Blow says:

Jesus suffered here on earth and if you want to follow him you will to. Osteen is misleading many on earth and will be judged accordingly up above in God kingdom.

  10. Bertie says:

Why do we christians sound like its us who suffer alone. Everyone on earth suffers. We dont hve to put ourselves in a box.

    • Ann Hildey says:

People suffer for different reasons….in addition to this Christians are subject to suffering because they are Christian. We are not putting ourselves in a box, we are merely quoting scripture. In our suffering though we who are in Him retain our inward joy and hope.

  11. John Carpenter says:

The problem with Christianity in a two sentences:

“It is only in crucifying our flesh and surrendering our wills to Christ that we will see heaven. True joy on this earth is understanding that Christ has a plan for those who believe despite what we have to endure.”

Indeed. There are hundreds of millions of Buddhists, Hindus, agnostics, and Muslims, who have found joy without believing they must “crucify their flesh”. I would suppose the rebuttal to that would be ‘But it isn’t “true joy”. Perhaps not but as far as a counterfeit goes, it’s a close second.

It is not surprising that the greatest threat to humanity today is the escalating hostilities between the muslim world and Christianity with its western values. Both have this in common: unlike Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, or Zoroastracism, both muslims and christians have a commandment from the founders of their faith to convert everyone to their faith.

Consequently, we have to endure the John Macarthur’s of the world who demonize those who do not accept his creed. And for what it’s worth, five years after he “took down” Osteen and “The Shack” both are doing quite well, thank you.

    • Joel McNicholas says:

you have the best answer of all …thanks…i remember that Jesus said..unless you become as little chrildren, you will….not…see the kingdom of God…little chrildren don’t act like these people talking here…or that guy john…..
