On Shai’s most recent album, “Lyrical Theology Part 1: Theology” he has a song devoted to False Teachers. This video gives a little background into why he felt it was important to address such a topic.

Listen to the song below

As per my About Me section, when I started this blog, the main reason is, if I am honest is that I was fed up of just going with the flow of what had become the norm in a lot of Christendom and wanted to get things off my chest. Most christians that I knew (including me) had swallowed the health and wealth prosperity gospel. Watching some of the preachers on TBN and God TV such as Creflo Dollar and Benny Hinn without REALLY lining up what they said with correct interpretation of scripture. Some of these (and our) pastors were twisting scripture but because it was the norm, we were deceived into thinking that because everyone was saying it and because these were respected leaders, it must be true.

Over the past few years, I have been encouraged to know that many people are beginning to question what they have been fed. However, many think that they are saved but in reality are actually self-deceived because they are blinded by false promises constantly talking about blessings, breakthrough and/or divine favour. A classic example can be seen in the video below

Vodpod videos no longer available.

My message to you is this. Examine your motives for staying where you are. Are you TRULY being fed and growing spriritually or are you suffering spritually and just staying because of friends or because of loyalty to your church and/or your pastor even though they may not be preaching the gospel or may not be righly dividing scripture?  I was in that position once when I stayed out of loyalty, not because of a longing for correct use of scripture. I really depended on ‘Christian’ TV for my food. Obviously, each case will be different and it maybe that some pastors are approachable with your concerns and will seriously listen to you. In my own personal experience though, those occasions are rare. Click here and here for reasons why you should or shouldnt leave your church and please get some wise godly counsel but please don’t stay out of loyalty alone

UPDATE: When I started to write this post it was basically about what I have stated above and then I came across a few things this week which made me realise that blind loyalty comes in different forms. First check out the video below of Lexi interviewing Bishop Oliver Clyde Allen and First Gentleman (thats right, not Lady but Gentleman) Rashad. This is an example of what happens when people hold a low view of scripture and hold their opinions higher.

HT: I’m Speaking Truth

The people are all willing to ignore the explicit commands of scripture to justify their sins and you can see how their loyalty to the ‘bishop’ is as a result of this. Now I have no problems with people struggling with their sins, no matter what form it takes, whether it be homosexual sins or hetrosexual sins, but I do have a problem when people try to justify it as if God has given it the green light. NEWSFLASH: It is NOT OK.

24Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

26For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. (Romans 1:24-27)

Then today I came across this news story on Sky News

At least six people have dies in Britain after being told they had been healed of HIV and could stop taking their medication, Sky News has discovered

There is evidence evangelical churches in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow are claiming to cure HIV through God.

Sky sent three undercover reporters to the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), which is based in Southwark, south London.

To tell an HIV sufferer that they do not need to take their medication anymore is nothing less than evil and deceptive (see my post Derren Brown: Miracles for Sale). Now this church follows the false teacher T B Joshua and I do not have time to go into this man but you can google his name. Many people follow this man blindly as if he can do no wrong without lining up what he says with scripture

When peoples lives are being wrecked by ministries like this, I will not stay silent and will sound the alarm. Who knows? It may save a life

DONT BE BLINDED BY YOUR LOYALTY

OK, so I watched this candid interview and it saddens me that a person can be deceived and puts their feelings above the authority of scripture. This just shows a very low view of scripture.  The sad thing is not so much that he has now openly admitted that he is a homosexual, but that there is no sign of a wish to turn from it, He says that he does not struggle with this sin (which is the sign of a person who is saved).

  • He thinks he is going to heaven ‘because he told the truth’ as if his salvation is based on that,
  • He has a very scewed view of marriage and covenant
  • He thinks that because he touched people by ‘carrying people into the presence of the Lord’ that that somehow validates his sin
  • Even though he is now living as a homosexual, he is apparently still pastoring thus disqualifying himself of the position

An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. Since an overseer is entrusted with God’s work, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it. (Titus 1:6-9)

  • He says that he is waiting on God about the situation. Yet there is no need to wait on God as he has explicitly instructed us though scripture that homosexuality and christianity do not mix

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. (1 Cor 6:9-10)

24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. 26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. (Romans 1:24-27)

A persons experience NEVER trumps scripture. Scripture determines our doctrine and experience. Not the other way round.

Anyway, have a listen to the interview for yourself

WARNING!! THIS BLOG WILL HAVE LINKS THAT CONTAIN EXPLICIT LANGUAGE

How many times do you hear Christians say that? Now I do not have a problem that in and of itself. If we look at the Psalms, we can see the various psalmists ‘keeping it real’ with their struggles, their pain, their frustration with the prosperity of the wicked and the many questions they have with God in their minds.

However what I do have a problem with is when people like Tonex (pictured below), write blogs like this and other blogs on his MySpace page WARNING!! THESE BLOGS CONTAINS EXPLICIT LANGUAGE.

Tonex

For those who dont know who Tonex is, he is a grammy nominated, multi awarded ‘gospel’ artist (even though he says he is not a gospel artist but just an artist). From what I understand, he has been through quite a lot like abuse, a divorce and having no money for example. Last year, he wrote a song called ‘The Naked truth’. You can view some of the unsavoury lyrics here. Now admittedly, he did apologise for his outburst after the Naked Truth but what happened between then and now is anybodys guess.

Now if I am honest, a lot of what he is saying is true but at the same time, a lot of it is not and very irresponsible. What I find even more disturbing is

1. This person was a Pastor

2. How many people including christians have written comments celebrating his ‘realness’.

Me, my friend and I am sure others have written a comment on his blog trying to make him see the error of his ways and I have asked him to examine himself to see if he in the faith (2 Cor 13:5) but he has chosen not to approve those comments for publication. I would be able to swallow this better, if he didnt insist that he and God are ‘tight’, if he didnt try to justify everything and if he didnt have a ‘I dont care what anybody thinks’ attitude.

I listened to a podcast interview that Tonex had with Tim Dillinger on his gay ‘christian’ radio station (do a search on Tonex on the website). He now says that Carlton Pearson is his mentor. Carlton is a heretic who preaches the gospel of inclusion which Tonex agrees with. His other mentor is Yvette Flunder who is a lesbian bishop.

Based on everything he has been saying lately and on the podcast as well and lining it up to scripture, I have every right to question his salvation and pray that he will have a correct understanding of the gospel as he has shown that he does not and is self-deceived.

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. (Ephesians 4:29)

He previously released an album called Oak Park 92105 with a ‘parental advisory explicit lyrics’ sticker on it. As someone mentioned on another blog, there are ways of addressing important issues without using such vulgar language e.g Cross Movement – Catch 22

Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. (Col 4:6)

Experience, good or bad should NEVER be our primary guide in life, as Tonex seems to be doing listening to various interviews, but it should be scripture and scripture alone. Scripture determines experience and not the other way around.

Lets pray for him, yes, but lets not celebrate his ‘honesty’ as many seem to be doing
