Prayer is the pulse of life; by it the doctor can tell what is the condition of the heart. The sin of praylessness is proof for the ordinary Christian or minister that the life of God in the soul is in deadly sickness and weakness – Andrew Murray

Drum roll please…………………….

…….a poster which read ‘There Definitely is a God’. Yep, thats right. It wasnt some of the adverts which blatantly put sexual images in front of hundreds of children or the one below

but this one.

The reason given was because it was ‘offensive to atheists’. For more on this story, click here.

The Christian Party did this in response to an advert launched by atheists saying on buses that ‘There’s probably no God. Now enjoy life and stop worrying about it’ (see below)

The scripture that came to light when I heard about this was John 3:19-21

19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”

Jesus has stated that we should not be suprised when the world hates good and loves evil

If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. (John 15:18-19)

These are the days we are living in and to be honest, we should not expect them to get any better but we should expect the world to become more hostile towards God. Whereas before, we only expected hostility to happen in places such as muslim countries, it is becoming more common in the UK. We have instances where a Christian is arrested and locked in a cell for saying that homosexuality is a sin  (even though the charges were later dropped).

I pray that as the world becomes more antagonistic towards God, that He will, in turn, grant us the boldness to stand up for truth. Not just any truth, but the truth that can only proceed from God himself.

The Comfort of the Fire Truck

ListenPerhaps you don’t have an “out-going” personality. Perhaps you are shy, and you like to keep to yourself. A firefighter may have the type of personality that likes to stay alone in the comfort of a fire truck and read books, but if he wants to do what he knows he should, he must change that attitude. So, step out of the truck. Make an effort today to greet at least two complete strangers. When you walk into the grocery store, the gas station, school, or work, practice being friendly with people you don’t know. Make yourself say, “Hi. How are you doing?” Try it and you will see that it really isn’t difficult at all. Then be bold. Offer them a Gospel tract, and run if you must. Better to give it and run than not give it at all. There goes another minute. Gone forever. Go share your faith while you still have time.

Whatever happened to Personal Evangelism?

This week, to combat the ‘Jesus said’ bus adverts, atheists here in the UK launched their own bus ad campaign. To read the full story, click here

And here is a video about it.

Belated April Fools Day Mr Atheist – Is this you?

This is something that has been bothering me for quite some time now about most churches. The fact of the matter is that most people will not step inside the door of a church. But instead of us GOING OUT to them to tell them the gospel, we spend more effort on trying to get people to ‘COME AND SEE‘. We have developed the average believers mentalities so that their ‘evangelism’ stops at inviting their friends and family to come to church and events around Easter, Christmas and such events as the Alpha Course and that is about it. Now am I saying that we should not do these things? No, but what I am saying is that should only be an extension of us reaching out to those who would otherwise, not come to church unless it is a christening, wedding or funeral. When it comes to such events as Christmas and Alpha, we pull out all the stops and encourage the congregation to invite people to church for the event by distributing leaflets etc but we dont seem to have the same oomph or zeal to get people to spread the gospel or give out gospel tracts all the year round in the same way, even if there is no event happening. We place the emphasis in the wrong place and we get it backwards. I am not saying that inviting people to events is wrong in any way as people obviously do get saved from them but it seems that when the events come and go, then the focus on personal evangelism goes with it and is forgotten.

We need to not be part of the apparent 98% of christians who do not share their faith REGULARLY. If I just go by my 20 years as a Christian and by my small group, I know this to be the case. I also know because I was one of them.

This is something that is close to my heart because I recognise the importance of spreading the gospel. I am not any big evangelist or anything but just a normal christian who understands that not all christians are called to be evangelists but ALL are called to evangelise and be proactive in evangelism and not just reactive. Our mindset needs to change.

Let us stop waiting for the fish to jump into the boat but let us GO OUT and be fishers of men

OK, after seeing these adverts on the bus, I saw another advert on a bus yesterday and to be honest it made me quite mad. I saw KICC’s advert about ‘Empowered to Prosper’. Well to be honest I just saw the word ‘Prosper’ as those were the words that were large and that could be seen from where I was. Click here for details of this event. For those who dont know KICC is the UK’s largest church.

This is such a misrepresentation of the gospel and it plays on peoples desires for material gain

Can you not see the vast difference in the adverts? And I always say this. Compare the messages on the two buses and you will see that the big giveaway is that KICCs message is man-centered.

The event is based on Deuteronomy 8:18: But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is He that giveth thee power to get wealth…

On the link, scripture is twisted when it says

Many believers are caught in a trap of lack. This is a direct contradiction to the Word of God which states that God wants us to prosper and be in health even as our souls prosper.

This is taken from 3 John 1:2 which is simply a greeting, our version of ‘I hope everything is well with you’ and should not be used as a doctrine on prosperity. (Bro Phil expands on this nicely here). Well that means that the apostle Paul was not a good example of a christian for us. His ministry was marked by suffering and not prosperity. But of course, thats not a popular message today

This is NOT the gospel of Jesus Christ

Whoever is Fearful

When God spoke to Gideon regarding the size of his army, He said, “Now therefore, proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying, ‘Whoever is fearful and afraid, let him turn and depart at once from Mount Gilead.'”(Judges 7:3) God wants those who have overcome fear by being dead to themselves. He wants soldiers that have been crucified with Christ. George Mueller said, “There was a day when I died, utterly died, died to George Mueller, his opinions, preferences, tastes, and will-died to the world, its approval or censure-died to the approval or blame even of my brethren and friends-and since then I have only to show myself approved to God.” The way to see if you are dead is to see how you react when God wants you to witness to an unsaved person. Are we dead to the whisperings of fear? There goes another minute. Gone forever. Go share your faith while you still have time.
