“If you are a Christian, God is not punishing you when you suffer. Jesus died for you, so your punishment has been paid. You will suffer because of your sin, sin of someone else, or consequence of the Fall. But, God is not punishing you. So, run to Him & not from Him” – Mark Driscoll.

I dont know about you but every now and then, I just like to stop and think.  I also like to look up at the sky and all around me, marvelling at God’s creation with all it complexities.  No wonder the bible states that the fool has said in his heart, “There is no God” (Psalms 14:1).

Psalms 19:1-6 states the following about God’s creation

1 The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
2Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
3There is no speech, nor are there words,
   whose voice is not heard.
4 Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,
5 which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,
and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
6Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them,
and there is nothing hidden from its heat.

Happy April Fool’s day Mr and Mrs Atheist

Drum roll please…………………….

…….a poster which read ‘There Definitely is a God’. Yep, thats right. It wasnt some of the adverts which blatantly put sexual images in front of hundreds of children or the one below

but this one.

The reason given was because it was ‘offensive to atheists’. For more on this story, click here.

The Christian Party did this in response to an advert launched by atheists saying on buses that ‘There’s probably no God. Now enjoy life and stop worrying about it’ (see below)

The scripture that came to light when I heard about this was John 3:19-21

19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”

Jesus has stated that we should not be suprised when the world hates good and loves evil

If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. (John 15:18-19)

These are the days we are living in and to be honest, we should not expect them to get any better but we should expect the world to become more hostile towards God. Whereas before, we only expected hostility to happen in places such as muslim countries, it is becoming more common in the UK. We have instances where a Christian is arrested and locked in a cell for saying that homosexuality is a sin  (even though the charges were later dropped).

I pray that as the world becomes more antagonistic towards God, that He will, in turn, grant us the boldness to stand up for truth. Not just any truth, but the truth that can only proceed from God himself.

Death has a very good way of putting everything in perspective. As a believer, I can rest in the fact that after I die, I will go to be with my Savior, Jesus in heaven, not because of any good in me but because I have repented of my sins and trusted in the atoning work of Christ on the cross.

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers (born again Christians) , about those who are asleep (dead), that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. (1 Thess 4:13-15)

Lately, for some reason, I seem to be surrounded by death in one form or another and I have been thinking a lot about death and how we as christians should respond to it, especially to unbelievers. The bible says that we should ‘mourn with those who mourn’.

When we see the pain caused by death, I believe that our first response should not to get into a theological debate about where that person has gone but to have compassion and mourn with those who have been affected. It is such a difficult time for all involved and to see this first hand makes you look at life differently and makes you treasure the small things in life and not take anything for granted

But at the same time, if a person does approach you and asks questions pertaining to the afterlife, we have to be ready to give them an answer.

Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience – 1 Peter 3:15 (my emphasis added)

I think it would also be wrong to give a person false hope that the person who has died has gone ‘to a better place’ because the fact of the matter is that we dont know. In fact, a lot of ministers profess that the person who has died and ‘gone to be with Jesus’, not taking into account how they lived their life on earth.

I like this verse in Da Truths song ‘Go’

Sometimes it’s beautiful
Other times I’m fuming
When I go to a funeral- why
Because the preacher that’s ruling
The pulpit is fooling them
Pulling the wool over their eyes
So now what’s a man to think
When in every single case
The preacher boldly exclaims
Though he never claimed to be saved
And he died from aids
That he’s still in a better place
Now I leave confused
And the people leave confused
And the family is comforted, but
It’s under the false pretense
That once a weekend
Is all that Jesus wants
So you know that it’s our job
To open up their eyes
With the truth that’s found in the script
So we can’t afford to hide, the treasure that’s inside
Let’s bless the world with this wonderful gift
Let’s give it to them

This is a hard pill to swallow but the fact is, Jesus said that most people who die DO NOT go to a better place but to a worse place because they have not taken The Narrow Road but instead prefer the broad road.

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. (Matthew 7:13-14)

Only God knows what has happened before the deceased’s final breath and we can only hope that they have repented before that happens but as stated before, we as believers need to be loving, compassionate, sensitive and understanding. Let us also ask God for wisdom as each situation will be unique.

And let us all remember that we are all part of the ultimate statistic. 10 out of 10 people die. We all will die one day and none of us know when that day will be. For some of us, it will be sooner rather than later as life can be so unpredictable so don’t take the risk and play Russian roulette with your soul. The bible says that it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this, the judgment (Hebrews 9:27).

If this is you, then this is your day: HAPPY APRIL FOOL’S DAY!

The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God” (Psalm 14:1).

Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words (Proverbs 23:9).

A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none, but knowledge is easy to one who has understanding (Proverbs 14:6).

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes (Proverbs 12:15).

The foolishness of God is wiser than men (1 Corinthians 1:25).

God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise (1 Corinthians 1:27).

The wisdom of this world is foolishness before God (1 Corinthians 3:19).

A natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them (1 Corinthians 2:14).

The word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God (1 Corinthians 1:18).

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
(Psalm 150:6)
