Drum roll please…………………….

…….a poster which read ‘There Definitely is a God’. Yep, thats right. It wasnt some of the adverts which blatantly put sexual images in front of hundreds of children or the one below

but this one.

The reason given was because it was ‘offensive to atheists’. For more on this story, click here.

The Christian Party did this in response to an advert launched by atheists saying on buses that ‘There’s probably no God. Now enjoy life and stop worrying about it’ (see below)

The scripture that came to light when I heard about this was John 3:19-21

19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”

Jesus has stated that we should not be suprised when the world hates good and loves evil

If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. (John 15:18-19)

These are the days we are living in and to be honest, we should not expect them to get any better but we should expect the world to become more hostile towards God. Whereas before, we only expected hostility to happen in places such as muslim countries, it is becoming more common in the UK. We have instances where a Christian is arrested and locked in a cell for saying that homosexuality is a sin  (even though the charges were later dropped).

I pray that as the world becomes more antagonistic towards God, that He will, in turn, grant us the boldness to stand up for truth. Not just any truth, but the truth that can only proceed from God himself.

This week, to combat the ‘Jesus said’ bus adverts, atheists here in the UK launched their own bus ad campaign. To read the full story, click here

And here is a video about it.

The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God” (Psalm 14:1)

Belated April Fools Day Mr Atheist – Is this you?

OK, after seeing these adverts on the bus, I saw another advert on a bus yesterday and to be honest it made me quite mad. I saw KICC’s advert about ‘Empowered to Prosper’. Well to be honest I just saw the word ‘Prosper’ as those were the words that were large and that could be seen from where I was. Click here for details of this event. For those who dont know KICC is the UK’s largest church.

This is such a misrepresentation of the gospel and it plays on peoples desires for material gain

Can you not see the vast difference in the adverts? And I always say this. Compare the messages on the two buses and you will see that the big giveaway is that KICCs message is man-centered.

The event is based on Deuteronomy 8:18: But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is He that giveth thee power to get wealth…

On the link, scripture is twisted when it says

Many believers are caught in a trap of lack. This is a direct contradiction to the Word of God which states that God wants us to prosper and be in health even as our souls prosper.

This is taken from 3 John 1:2 which is simply a greeting, our version of ‘I hope everything is well with you’ and should not be used as a doctrine on prosperity. (Bro Phil expands on this nicely here). Well that means that the apostle Paul was not a good example of a christian for us. His ministry was marked by suffering and not prosperity. But of course, thats not a popular message today

This is NOT the gospel of Jesus Christ

OK, so I was walking home from work a few days ago and what adverts do I see on a few buses in big writing?

The scriptures that I saw were very good, which included the one above and I thank God that unlike most christian adverts that I see in London which basically just promote their christian events, these adverts just promoted Christ which is a rarity these days. Click here to see the website. My only criticism is that I cannot see any mention of hell on the website and it seems to have shyed away from mentioning it and substitsuted it with ‘eternal separation from God’ which is true but for some people, would seem like a blessing because they do not want to be with God anyway. But apart from that, I have to give give honor where honor is due and I think that they have done an excellent job in proclaiming Christ on the London Transport

Well done Proclaiming Truth in London

However not everyone is happy. Click here to see an example.

UPDATE: I emailed them about the abscence of the mention hell and they gave me a gracious reply.

Thank you for your point about not mentioning hell specifically enough. It is a good one and I will look into it. Any other constructive criticism will be welcome.

There is nothing as powerful as the Word of God and we believe that the Lord will use it to draw many to Himself.

We covet your prayers and that of believers around you that the Lord will use this declaration of truth effectively for His glory.

I was very satisfied with their answer and how they were open to constructive criticism. Please keep them in your prayers

Possibly one of the biggest questions that a Christian must ask is,, “Why should I witness?” After all, it is a fearful activity, set about with the possibility that you might lose all your friends and be a social outcast.crowd There’s even the possibility that you could be attacked or abused in some way. In some places, you could even get arrested and thrown in prison.

Several reasons for obeying the Lord in this matter immediately come to mind for the obedient Christian.

We witness because Jesus commands it:
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost
(Matthew 28:19 ) . Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15 )

We witness because it is the wise thing to do.
Proverbs 11:30 says ” …he that winneth souls is wise.” Now’s your chance to improve your wisdom. Solomon prayed for this gift above all other things and God approved of his prayer. If God says that I’m wise in witnessing to win souls, then how could I be disobedient to His prompting? Wise up!

We witness because it Glorifies God
Every time you share the Gospel with someone, you glorify the Name of the One who sent you. Just as a diplomat or emissary speaks with the authority of the one that sent them, the witness speaks with the awesome authority of the Almighty Creator of the universe.

We witness for Christ because we love the lost
(if you don’t, you should begin to question whether you are actually a Christian yourself.) The most loving thing you can do for someone who isn’t saved is to present the gospel to them in the hopes of bringing them to that saving relationship with the Lord. Galatians 5:22 lists love as one of the fruits of the Spirit. It is in the nature of love to give. Take for example the famous passage in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” Love gives, and if you have only a small portion of the love of God, you will want to give it to others so that they will share in the love of God too.

We witness to keep people out of Hell.
Hell is a real and terrifying place of anguish, pain and eternal separation from God. “Eternal” means for ever, with no let up. Ever! Once you go to Hell, there is no escape from the white hot retribution of the wrath of God. Those who are not saved go to Hell. Some people will say that “a loving God won’t send anyone to Hell.” That’s a lie from Satan himself and based on an idolatrous view of god made in our own, selfish image. A loving God can’t do anything else but send sinners to Hell. As someone once put it, “I love children, therefore I hate abortion and those who kill children.” God loves the world and He rejoices in His creation, therefore He hates sin because it destroys the very thing that He created and loves. Witnessing is your opportunity to keep sinners out of Hell’s fire.

We witness so that those who are lost may find the love and fellowship of God (1 John 1:3) That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” This is the greatest gift you can ever give to anyone and it reveals the true and living God to those who don’t know Him. The angels of heaven go wild with enthusiastic praise when anyone passes from judgment into salvation (Luke 15:10). Shouldn’t we rejoice just a little bit too, when we see someone saved? Shouldn’t we be weeping over the lost? Shedding tears for those who denied God, turned their backs on the One who could save them and went to the grave without that blessed assurance of salvation that comes through repentance and faith in Christ. Shouldn’t we be praying that the Lord of the harvest sends labourers into His fields (Luke 10:2)? Too Right We Should! Preaching the Gospel of salvation to others is our God-given task here in this world. The love of God should be your motive. Is there anything greater?

That’s why we witness!
