If I am correct, your first reaction to the above statement was absolute disgust. The chances are that you probably pictured it in your mind also and the picture to the left probably didn’t help (dont worry it’s not what you think) but I hope you get the point.

The heading is taken from a song from Timothy Brindle called Let’s Kill Sin and it talks about the deceitfulness of sin

Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; 13 but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. (Hebrews 3:12,13)

The reason I bought this up is because of a gospel presentation that my pastor preached yesterday. In his illustration he used a ladder, as his prop, with Gods name at the top. This was basically to show us that our good works etc could never make us reach the top. Then he had other names on separate sheets of paper and asked the congregation where on the ladder the names should appear. The names included our Pastor, Mother Theresa, Britney Spears, Nicodemus and ‘?’ which indicated us. What amazed me is the congregations understanding of sin. When asked, they put Mother Theresa near the top above the middle of the ladder, my Pastor and Nicodemus near the middle and Britney near the bottom, and it seemed to be a general consensus. My first thoughts was do these people understand that ‘our righteousness is as filthy rags’ and ALL the names should have been at the bottom of the ladder.

My conclusion is that a lot of Christians (and I would even include myself to a certain extent) do not fully understand the exceeding sinfulness of sin in the eyes of a holy God (Romans 7:13)
